A United States Air Force dog, Jony, serving with the 20th Security Forces Squadron, has retired after nine years, (68 dog years) of distinguished service. Jony’s retirement was announced by the U.S. Department of Defence. Pentagon said in a statement, that Jony retired due to a compressed disc in his spine, and has been permanently put in the hands of its handler, Air Force Staff, Sergeant Anthony Despins, a military dog handler, who met Jony as his first canine partner in 2012. An NYPD officer is facing disciplinary action after tweeting “Black Lives Matter” from her personal account, in response to a post from the Department’s 76th Precinct’s Twitter page. Gwendolyn Bishop, a black woman, was reprimanded and slapped with departmental charges after officials accused her of inappropriately writing on the Brooklyn Precinct’s Twitter page. Buhari Sends Osinbajo To France For Anti-corruption, Integrity Forum Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday left Abuja for Paris to attend the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum. A Port Harcourt-based nurse, Oji Allwell, raised alarm over false news claiming that he committed suicide by jumping into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday. The nurse was forced to speak out after many online news organisations used his picture along with the story of Allwell Orji, the Lagos-based doctor that actually committed suicide. Oji’s photos along with the suicide report went viral late on Sunday and led many of his friends to believe he had taken his life. In a video uploaded on his Facebook page, the nurse informed his friends and well-wishers that he was alive and well. He said, “Good afternoon my beloved friends and well-wishers. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has handed over to the Nigerian Air Force an hospital with medical equipment worth about $2.15m which was seized from a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd.), The hospital, St. Solomon Hospital, which is located on Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, is said to have state-of-the-art equipment including a Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine which costs well over $1m. According to Punch the EFCC could not manage the property and therefore decided to hand it over to the Nigerian Air Force medical unit. He said, “The hospital has very expensive equipment including an MRI machine which is very rare. However, we could not manage the hospital so we handed it over to the air force pending the outcome of Amosu’s trial. The Nigerian Army has dismissed claims in some online media that soldiers recently deployed in Ogoni molested women in the area. The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army described the publication as malicious, false and a failed attempt by some cult members and other criminals to raise unnecessary alarm. The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, said the allegation was aimed at orchestrating withdrawal of the soldiers who were preventing hoodlums from committing crimes. Iliyasu explained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday that the activities of the troops had helped in restoring peace to the town.
