Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said public resources that were looted in the past few years in the country would be accounted for by those involved. Osinbajo stated this today in a nationwide broadcast to mark the second anniversary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He said that accounting for the funds had become imperative in view of the determination of the administration to bring persons accused of corruption to justice. An Economist, Prof. Chika Aliyu, has commended the Federal Government on the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan (ERGP), as the nation marks Democracy Day. Aliyu, a Professor of Economics and Researcher in Development Economics said this in an interview with the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja. Aliyu, who teaches at the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto said that the government did very well by coming up with the economic plan to take the country out of recession. The ERGP projected that Nigeria will make significant progress to achieve structural economic change with a more diversified and inclusive economy in five key areas by 2020. The key areas are stable macro-economic environment, agricultural transformation, food security, sufficiency in energy and improved transportation infrastructure. •Governor Ganduje. The Kano State Government has earmarked N300 million for the annual Ramadan free feeding programme scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 27. Malam Ibrahim Kankarofi, Chairman of the programme made the disclosure at a meeting with coordinators of the feeding centres at Government House, Kano on Friday. Lawyer and pro-democracy activist, Mr. Tunji Abayomi, has warned the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, not to sign the 2017 budget into law and advised him to initiate a public interest litigation against the National Assembly for increasing the budget submitted to it for approval by the President. Mr. Abayomi’s position was made known in a letter to the acting President. Dated 23 May, the letter described the decision of the federal legislature to increase the budget by an estimated N143billion as unconstitutional and a reboot of the “primary source of conflict between the Executive and the Legislative arms of government” since the country returned to civil rule in 1999.
