Court jails unemployed man for stealing N10,000


An Igbosere Magistrates ’ Court in Lagos on Monday
sentenced an unemployed man , Oluwafemi Daisi , 35,
to one year imprisonment for stealing N10, 000.
The convict had on arraignment pleaded guilty to a
two -counts of conspiracy and stealing .
The Magistrate , Mrs . A . T . Omoyele, who gave the
verdict, sentenced Daisi, without an option of fine.
He was, however, arraigned alongside one Tijani
Yussuf , 33, who pleaded not guilty to the two -counts .
Yussuf was admitted to bail in the sum of N50, 000
with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the magistrate should be
gainfully employed and their addresses verified .
She adjourned the case till May 4 for mention .
The Prosecutor , Sgt . Cyriacus Osuji , had said that the
duo and others at large committed the offences on
April 3 at 10 p .m . at Adeniji Adele area of Lagos .
Osuji said that the accused stole N10, 000 from one
Peter Obauwama of the Nigeria Prisons Service ,
Alagbon in Ikoyi , Lagos .
He said that the complainant’ s car broke down on
the road and the accused came and searched the car
where he stole the money .
Osuji said that the offences contravened Sections 287
and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015

Awaiting the death and burial of recession

Judging by how confident the governor of the Cen­tral Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr Godwin Emefiele was as he made the announcement, we can only but agree that, all things being equal – like econ­omists the world over always posit – Nigeria will be out of recession latest by the third quarter of this year.
