Unregistered teachers to lose jobs – FG

The Registrar /Chief Executive Officer , Teachers
Registration Council of Nigeria , Prof Olusegun
Ajiboye, has warned that the Federal Government
will not allow any teacher without the
professional certificate of the TRCN to teach beyond
2017.
Ajiboye, who made this known in Ibadan on
Tuesday , explained that the policy was part of the
three -year Ministerial Strategic Plan designed by the
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu .
According to Ajiboye, the council would stop the
present form of registration that did not entail any
examination at the end of May 2017, while the first
professional qualifying examination of the TRCN
would take place at the end of September 2017.
He said the policy was designed to fully
professionalise teaching in Nigeria and ensure that
only those who were qualified to teach were
employed by the government for quality assurance .
While noting that the present administration of
President Muhammadu Buhari would not joke with
professionalism in the teaching profession , Ajiboye
added that teachers who registered on or before May
31, 2017, would be exempted from the qualifying
examinations .
He said that already , the council had registered
about 1.6 million teachers since he assumed office
under this administration.
“ By the end of 2017 , Nigerian children will be taught
by only qualified professional teachers who can
deliver the quality education desirous for the
elevation of our children and our country .
“ Professionalism is the key for entering into the
profession , those who do not have what it takes
cannot be trusted with the future of our children .
We are out to ensure a guaranteed future for our
future leaders by ensuring that those who teach
them are the best around. This will translate to
higher performances and better value for
professional teachers .
“ The professional examination takes place by the
end of September and it is the first of its kind and
we have structured it into modules of different
categories . This is in line with the three - year
Ministerial Strategic Plan on education policy
designed by the Minister of Education , ” said Ajiboye .
The TRCN boss added that the professional qualifying
examination would be designed in modules
comprising category A (PhD holders), category B
( Master degree holders) , category C (Bachelor degree
holders) , and category D ( NCE holders).

Jose Mourinho explains who his one-finger celebration was aimed at

Jose Mourinho certainly didn’t hide his emotions after winning the Europa League with Manchester United. After his side triumphed over Ajax 2-0, the Portuguese boss celebrated wildly. Mourinho was seen embracing his son, whilst telling all of his players to hold up three fingers to signify their fairly underwhelming ‘treble’ of the Community Shield, EFL Cup and now the Europa League. But there was one action that nobody could quite understand. Immediately after the final whistle, Mourinho could be seen shaking his index finger rather passionately at the crowd. But what did it mean? Did he mean this was the first major trophy of his spell at United? Did it mean that he was still the Special One? Or was it a message to the victims of the Manchester attacks on Monday? Well, none of the above, actually. Mourinho has actually revealed exactly who his one-finger celebration was aimed at. Mourinho explains his celebration "It's for my family," Mourinho sa...

Awaiting the death and burial of recession

Judging by how confident the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr Godwin Emefiele was as he made the announcement, we can only but agree that, all things being equal – like economists the world over always posit – Nigeria will be out of recession latest by the third quarter of this year. According to his well-heeled argument, there was nowhere else for the nation’s beleaguered economy to head on account of the abiding positive indicators but out of recession. Who indeed would doubt him with inflation trending downwards, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) improving and foreign exchange going to the real sector as and when needed? What is more! This optimism is no less supported by the recent release of the nation’s economic position by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). According to the release, though the nation’s GDP contracted by 0.52 per cent in the 1st Quarter of 2017 representing the fifth consecutive quarter of contraction since the first quarter...
